We have had to scramble around for caregivers quite a bit this week with all the holiday closures (or lack thereof, in the clinic's case). Rafe came to visit me at work for a few hours. We played with my phone.
But, when work ended on the 24th, we were free! We visited friends (where Vivien took a turn playing with my phone). Rafe obviously found the conversation riveting.
We enjoyed relaxing at home as well.
On Christmas Eve we went out to our friend's house in town for a little party. We came home and tried to get Vivien excited about Santa Claus's arrival, but she insisted she didn't want him to come and bring her presents. We made her go to bed anyway. She was pleased to get presents the next morning regardless.
She was unfortunately more interested in playing with the presents Rafe unwrapped than unwrapping her own. We had to handle a few melt downs before the morning was over.
But they both seemed quite pleased with their balance bikes. It is really hard to snap a helmet strap under a baby's squishy chin.
They were also excited about their first set of Legos.
They built a magnificent tower right away. Maybe there is hope for them to be able to build more things out of Legos than a representation of sedimentary rock that's the only thing their mom can make . . . Obscure geology joke? Check!
Drew took the kids down to the park to give their bikes a spin. Rafe is just a bit short for his bike, which means he'll have to master the concept of balancing a lot quicker than Vivi to be able to ride.
Vivi was getting very good at walking quickly like a penguin by the end of her first session. We will keep practicing.
We had Christmas Dinner with the Rasmussens, some friends from the ward that live on the next floor up in our tower. I made rolls, and a Christmas Trifle out of red velvet cake, white chocolate ganache, and peppermint whipped cream. It was super tasty. We played a fun game called Deer in the Headlights with our friends while the kids played with their new Christmas toys. It was a wonderfully pleasant and relaxing day. We tried really hard not to think about being far away from family, but it did give us the excuse to sing some sad Christmas Songs. IIIII'll be hoooooome for Christmas if ooooonlyyyyy iiiiiin myyyyy dreeeeeeeeeeeeams!
And one more unrelated picture.
The Sunday after Christmas, I felt like having Cafe Rio salads, so we invited some friends over to enjoy them with us. Vivi got some practice holding their baby. We have some work to do!
